Amiodarone HCl |
Indications |
Tab Prevention of recurrences of ventricular tachycardia, arrhythmia & fibrillation; supraventricular tachycardia. Treatment of supraventricular tachycardia in the presence of coronary artery disease &/or impaired left ventricular function. Amp Atrial arrhythmias, Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome tachycardia, ventricular arrhythmia, cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Dosage |
Tab 1 tab tid for 8-10 days. Maintenance: ½ tab every 2 days to 2 tab daily. Amp IV infusion: Initially 5 mg/kg over 20 min-2 hr. Maintenance: 10-20 mg/kg/day over a few days. Direct IV inj: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation Initially 300 mg (5 mg/kg). May have additional 150 mg (2.5 mg/kg) if needed.

Overdosage |
View Cordarone overdosage for action to be taken in the event of an overdose. |
Administration |
May be taken with or without food (Administer consistently w/ regard to meals. Take w/ meals if high dose or to reduce GI discomfort.). |
Contraindications |
Sinus bradycardia, SA heart block & sinus node disease w/o prosthesis, AV conduction disorders, circulatory collapse, severe hypotension, hyperthyroidism, iodine hypersensitivity, combination w/ drugs that induce torsades de pointes. Pregnancy, lactation.

Adverse Drug Reactions |
Reversible corneal microdeposits; hyper- or hypothyroidism; photosensitization, pigmentation, diffuse interstitial pneumopathy or peripheral neuropathy.

Antiarrhythmics, β-blockers, stimulating laxatives, diuretics inducing hypokalemia, systemic corticosteroids, tetracosactide, amphotericin B, digitalis, anticoagulants, phenytoin, general anesth, cyclosporin.
