Effects of this medicine
This medicine is a glycopeptide antibiotic which inhibits synthesis of the bacterial cell wall to exert an antibacterial effect.
It is usually used to treat a wide range of infections such as sepsis, infections in surgical/orthopedic cases, respiratory infection, intra-abdominal infection and intracerebral infection, and febrile neutropenia suspected to be due to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) or methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative Staphylococcus (MRCNS) infection.

In general, this medicine is administered by intravenous infusion over 60 minutes or longer every 6 hours or every 12 hours in adults, every 12 hours or every 24 hours in the elderly, in 2 to 4 divided doses a day in children and infants, every 12 hours in newborns up to 1 week of age or every 8 hours in newborns up to 1 month of age.

You should keep at rest from the beginning to the end of drip infusion.

Precautions while taking this medicine

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine
The most commonly reported adverse reactions include rash, itching, redness, hives, facial flush, blister, anemia, fever, phlebitis, vascular pain, skin vasculitis and injection site pain. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.

respiratory distress, generalized flushing, edema [shock, anaphylaxis]

edema, decreased urine output or anuria, fever [acute renal failure, interstitial nephritis]

palpitation/shortness of breath, sore throat, gum bleeding [pancytopenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia]

fever, redness/swelling of skin and mucosa with rash and blister, hyperemia of the bulbar conjunctiva [toxic epidermal necrolysis, muco-cutaneo-ocular syndrome, exfoliative dermatitis]

rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes [drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome]
