Effects of this medicine
This medicine constricts excessively dilated intracranial/extracranial blood vessels under migraine attack and puts them back to normal. It also reduces inflammation around the vessels by suppressing the release of the substance which causes inflammation.
It is usually used to treat migraine and cluster headache attack, for not to prevent the attacks.
Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist
•If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines. If you are allergic to latex.
If you have: heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, peripheral vascular disease, hypertension, hepatic disease or kidney disease.
If you have had: epileptiform attack, heart disease or cerebrovascular disease.
•If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
•If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)
Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)
•Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((to be written by a healthcare professional))
•In general, for adults, inject 3 mg of sumatriptan subcutaneously at a time when migraine or cluster headache attacks occur. The dosage may be adjusted according to the age or symptoms: however, the daily dosage is limited to two injections (6 mg). Strictly follow the instructions.
•If the medicine is required to use twice a day, separate the doses by at least 1 hour.
•Read the instruction leaflet included in the package of this medicine carefully before use.
•Inject this medicine with a dedicated pen-shaped injector.
•Do not use the syringe if a seal on the top of the cartridge pack is peeling off. Use the syringe immediately after taking it out from the cartridge pack. Do not reuse the used cartridges.
•If you accidentally inject more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
•Do not use this medicine without your doctor's instructions.
Precautions while taking this medicine
•This medicine may cause sleepiness. Avoid operating dangerous machinery, such as driving a car.
•Natural rubber latex is contained in the injection needle cover of this medicine. Pay attention to the possible allergic reaction.
Possible adverse reactions to this medicine
The most commonly reported adverse reactions include malaise, pressured feeling, lassitude, nausea/vomiting, sleepiness, feverish, pain, transient blood pressure rising, dizziness and skin symptoms such as hives, rash, etc.. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
•respiratory distress, cold sweat, dizziness on standing up [anaphylactic shock, anaphylaxis]
•palpitation, rapid pulse, chest pain [arrhythmia, ischemic heart disease-like symptoms]
•consciousness disorder, convulsion [epileptiform attack]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.
Storage conditions and other information
•Keep the cartridge pack out of reach of children. Store at room temperature.
•Discard the used cartridge pack in accordance with the instructions of local authorities. If you are not able to discard or not sure of how to discard the used cartridge pack, bring it to the pharmacy or medical institution.
•Discard the remainder. Do not store them. Ask the pharmacy or medical institution on how to discard them.
