Human albumin |
Indications |
Hypovolemia, cardiopulmonary bypass surgery, hemolytic disease of the newborn. Hypoalbuminemia due to burns, adult resp distress syndrome, nephrosis. |
Dosage |
Individualized dosage. Administer IV at a max rate of 1 mL/min. Hypovolemic shock Adult Initially 100-200 mL. Childn Initially 2.5-5 mL/kg body wt. Repeat after 15-30 min if response is inadequate. Hypoalbuminemia Max daily dose: 2 g/kg body wt. Hemolytic disease of the newborn 1 g/kg body wt prior to or during exchange transfusion. |
Contraindications |
History of allergic reaction to albumin; severely anemic patients; cardiac failure. |
Special Precautions |
A BP rise after infusion may require close observation of the injured or post-op patient to detect & treat severed blood vessels that may not have bled at a lower BP. Pregnancy. |
Adverse Drug Reactions |
Occasionally nausea, fever, chills or urticaria.
