Drug Description
Multi-dose vials.
Presentation
Injection, lidocaine hydrochloride 0.5%, 1% or 2%, adrenaline 1:200,000.
Indications
Local anaesthetic solution for use in infiltration anaesthesia and nerve block techniques.
Adult Dosage
Adjust according to site of Adjust according to site of administration and response of patient. Recommended maximum dose for Xylocaine when given with adrenaline is 500mg.
Child Dosage
Smaller doses required. Refer to Summary of Product Characteristics.
Contra Indications
Known hypersensitivity to anaesthetics of the amide type. Anaesthesia of fingers, toes, tip of nose, ears and penis.
Special Precautions
Epilepsy, impaired cardiac conduction, impaired respiratory function. Impaired hepatic function if dose or site of administration is likely to result in high blood levels. Facilities for resuscitation should be available during administration. Hypertension, cardiac disease, cerebrovascular insufficiency or thyrotoxicosis. Early pregnancy. Should not be given intravenously.
Interactions
Tricyclic antidepressants, MAOIs, potent general anaesthetics.
