Drug Description

Presentation
Powder for injection, botulinum toxin Type A-haemagglutinin complex 100 units.
Indications
Symptomatic relief of blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, idiopathic cervical dystonia. Treatment in specialist centres of dynamic equinus foot deformity due to spasticity in cerebral palsy patients from 2 years.
Adult Dosage
Doses are not interchangeable with other preparations of botulinum toxin.
Contra Indications
Known hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation. Generalised disorders of muscle activity (eg, myasthenia gravis). Concomitant or likely use of aminoglycosides or spectinomycin. Bleeding disorders or any type, anticoagulant therapy and whenever there is any reason to withold intramuscular injections. Pregnancy and lactation.
Special Precautions
Injection sites close to structures such as the carotid artery and pleural apices. Recommended dosages and frequency of administration should not be exceeded.
Interactions
Aminoglycosides; see Contraindications. Drugs that interfere with neuromuscular transmission (eg, tubocurarine- type muscle relaxants). Polymixins, tetracyclines and lincomycin. Muscle relaxants.
Adverse Reactions
Temporary paralysis of neighbouring muscle groups may occur.
