Effects of this medicine

This medicine alkylates DNA and inhibits nucleic acid synthesis. It consequently suppresses cancer cell growth.
It is usually used in the surgery for malignant glioma.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
  • If you are pregnant, possible pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

  • If this medicine is used, you and your partner should not be pregnant within a certain period. Follow the instructions of your doctor on fertility control and duration.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include cerebral edema, fever, hemiplegia (including hemiparesis), nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and headache. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • convulsion  [convulsion, grand mal convulsion]
  • headache, vomiting, dizziness, hemiplegia, visual disorder  [cerebral edema, elevated intracranial pressure, hydrocephalus, exencephaly]
  • difficulty in healing of wound  [impaired healing of wound]
  • fever, headache, vomiting, consciousness disorder  [infection (infection of wound, abscess, meningitis)]
  • numbness of limbs, hemiplegia, swelling of lower limbs, chest pain, breathing difficulty  [thromboembolism (cerebral infarction, deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism)]
  • hemiplegia, nausea, vomiting, headache, consciousness disorder  [hemorrhage (tumor hemorrhage, intracerebral hemorrhage, intracranial hemorrhage)]
