Effects of this medicine

This medicine is a carbapenem antibiotic and has bactericidal activity by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls.
It is usually used for treatment of a wide range of infections such as respiratory infection, blood infection, skin infection, urinary-tract infection, febrile neutropenia, and purulent meningitis.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you or your family have the predisposition to allergic symptoms such as bronchial asthma and hives.
    If you have : renal and/or hepatic damage, a history of epilepsy or brain disease.
    If you can hardly take food by mouth.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is <<        to be written by a healthcare professional>>
  • In general, this medicine is intravenously infused in two to three (for adults) or three (for children) divided doses per day.
  • The treatment period with this medicine depends on your symptoms and responses to the treatment.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • In case that this medicine is administered for one-week or longer, you should receive hepatic function tests according to instructions of your doctor.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include hepatic dysfunction (general malaise, loss of appetite, vomiting, etc.), diarrhea, rash, fever, hives, erythema, pruritus, redness and heat sensation. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • breathing difficulty, dizziness, hives [shock, anaphylaxis]
  • decrease in urinary volume, edema, headache [acute renal failure]
  • general malaise, loss of appetite, yellowing of skin or conjunctiva [fulminant hepatitis, hepatic dysfunction, jaundice]
  • fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain [pseudomembranous colitis]
  • fever, dry cough, breathing difficulty [Interstitial pneumonia, PIE syndrome]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  •  If you become unwell during an infusion, you should tell your doctor immediately.
