Effects of this medicine
This medicine is an antibiotic which inhibits synthesis of the bacterial cell wall to exert a bactericidal effect. Certain bacteria produce an enzyme (β-lactamase) which degrades antibiotics, and this medicine also contains another active ingredient which inhibits the enzyme.
It is usually used to treat sepsis, pneumonia, pyelonephritis, complicated cystitis and febrile neutropenia.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
If you have infectious mononucleosis, renal disorder (incl. hemodialysis), bleeding diathesis or liver disorder.
If you or any of your parents and siblings is predisposed to allergic reactions (e.g., bronchial asthma, rash, hives).
If you are in a poor oral feeding state or in a parenteral nutrition state.
If you are in a poor general condition.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

In general, this medicine is administered by intravenous infusion or intravenous injection twice to 4 times a day.

The treatment period with this medicine is determined based on symptoms. As a guide, the treatment period with this medicine is 5 days for pyelonephritis and complicated cystitis in adults, 14 days for community-acquired pneumonia and febrile neutropenia and for pyelonephritis and complicated cystitis in children, and 21 days for sepsis and hospital-acquired pneumonia.

You should keep at rest from the beginning to the end of infusion/injection.

Precautions while taking this medicine

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine
The most commonly reported adverse reactions include diarrhea, loose stool, vomit, fever, constipation, rash and headache. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.

respiratory distress, asthmatoid attacks, itch [shock, anaphylaxis]

red rash, hyperemia of the bulbar conjunctiva, painful enanthema of the oral mucosa, etc. [toxic epidermal necrolysis, muco-cutaneo-ocular syndrome]

general malaise, loss of appetite, yellowing of the skin and the white of eyes [fulminant hepatitis, liver dysfunction, jaundice]

edema, decreased urination output, loss of appetite [acute renal failure, interstitial nephritis]

sore throat, nasal/gum bleeding, anemia [pancytopenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, hemolytic anemia]
