Indications |
Treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis to reduce the risk of vertebral fractures & established postmenopausal osteoporosis to reduce the risk of hip fractures. |

Dosage |
1 tab on the 1st day followed on the next day by 1 sachet daily for 6 days. Repeat the 7-day sequence each wk starting w/ the tab. Do not take the tab & sachet on the same day. |

Contraindications |
Hypersensitivity to soya bean oil. Hypocalcaemia; hypercalcaemia; hypercalciuria; diseases &/or conditions eg prolonged immobilization associated w/ hypercalcaemia &/or hypercalciuria; nephrolithiasis. Severe renal impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min). Hypervitaminosis D. Pregnancy & lactation. |

Special Precautions |
Re-eva luation of the therapy done periodically for continued therapy. History of oesophageal disorders which delay oesophageal transit or emptying, patients who are unable to stay in the upright position for at least 30 min. Treat bone & mineral metabolism disturbances prior to therapy. Osteonecrosis of jaw in cancer patients under chemotherapy & corticosteroids. Monitor serum Ca levels & urinary Ca excretion. Sarcoidosis; immobilised patients. Galactose or fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency, Lapp lactase deficiency. |

Adverse Drug Reactions |
Atypical subtrochanteric & diaphyseal femoral fractures, headache, constipation, dyspepsia, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, musculoskeletal pain.

Drug Interactions |
Risedronate Na: Ca, Mg, Fe, Al salts. Ca/Vit D3: Thiazide diuretics; corticosteroids; tetracyclines, cardiac glycosides, Na fluoride, oxalic acid, phytic acid, cholestyramine or laxatives.
