Triamterene 50 mg, hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg |
Indications |
Mild to moderate HTN; control of oedema in cardiac failure, liver cirrhosis, nephrotic syndrome & oedema associated w/ corticosteroid treatment. |
Dosage |
HTN 1 tab daily. Oedema 1 tab bd. Optimal dose: 3 tab/day. Maintenance: 1 tab/day or 2 tab on alternate days. |
Administration |
Should be taken with food (Take after meals.). |
Contraindications |
Severe or progressive renal or hepatic dysfunction; elevated plasma K levels; anuria; lithium therapy. |
Special Precautions |
Other forms of K supplementation; electrolyte imbalance; elderly; diabetes; gout; pregnancy, lactation. |
Adverse Drug Reactions |
Muscle cramps, weakness, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, rash, urticaria, photosensitivity, diarrhoea, postural hypotension, SLE, gout.

Drug Interactions |
Reduced lithium clearance. Increased risk of hyperkalemia w/ ACE inhibitors. Triamterene, NSAIDs. Increased risk of hyponatraemia w/ chlorpropamide.

Pregnancy Category (US FDA) |
Category C: Either studies in animals have revealed adverse effects on the foetus (teratogenic or embryocidal or other) and there are no controlled studies in women or studies in women and animals are not available.
