Dosage |
1 tab daily taken at the same time each day for 28 consecutive days starting on day 1 of menstrual cycle.

Overdosage |
View Yaz overdosage for action to be taken in the event of an overdose. |

May be taken with or without food |
Contraindications |
Thrombosis, DVT, pulmonary embolism, heart attack; stroke, angina pectoris, transient ischaemic attack, small reversible stroke, migraine w/ visual symptoms, speech disability or weakness/numbness in any part of the body; DM w/ blood vessel damage, severe HTN, surgery w/ prolonged bed rest, pancreatitis, jaundice or severe liver disease, cancer of the uterus, cervix or vag lining; breast or genital organ cancer, severe kidney insufficiency, adrenal insufficiency, benign or malignant liver tumor, unexplained vag bleeding. Heavy smoker >35 yr (>15 cigarettes/day). Pregnancy.

Special Precautions |
Smoking, diabetes, obesity, HTN, heart valve or heart rhythm disorder, superficial phlebitis, varicose veins, family history of thrombosis, heart attack or stroke; migraine, epilepsy, hyperkalemia, family history of hypercholesterolemia, breast cancer in immediate family, liver or gallbladder disease, Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, SLE, hemolytic uremic syndrome, hearing loss, porphyria, herpes gestationis, Sydenham's chorea; sickle cell disease, chloasma, hereditary angioedema. Lactation.

Adverse Drug Reactions |
Lump in breast; unusual, heavy vag bleeding, severe diarrhea, unusual cough, severe chest pain, breathlessness; unusual, severe or prolonged headache or migraine; partial/complete loss of vision, slurring or speech disability; double vision, sudden changes in hearing, sense of smell or taste; dizziness or fainting, weakness or numbness in any part of the body, severe abdominal pain, severe pain or swelling of legs, nausea, increased wt, depressed & altered mood & breast pain & tenderness; thrombosis.

Drug Interactions |
Antiepileptics eg primidone, phenytoin, barbiturates, carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, topiramate, felbamate, lamotrigine; anti-TB eg rifampicin, rifabutin; antivirals eg ritonavir, nevirapine; antibiotics eg penicillins, tetracyclines, griseofulvin; St. John's wort, ketoconazole, erythromycin, cyclosporin; AIIA & aldosterone antagonists & K-sparing diuretics.

Pregnancy Category (US FDA) |
Category X: Studies in animals or human beings have demonstrated foetal abnormalities or there is evidence of foetal risk based on human experience or both, and the risk of the use of the drug in pregnant women clearly outweighs any possible benefit. The drug is contraindicated in women who are or may become pregnant. |
