Brinzolamide 1%, timolol maleate 0.5% |
Indications |
Decrease IOP in open-angle glaucoma or ocular HTN. |
Dosage |
Adult & elderly 1 drop in the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) bid. |
Contraindications |
Bronchial asthma, severe COPD; sinus bradycardia, 2nd- or 3rd-degree AV block, overt cardiac failure, or cardiogenic shock; severe allergic rhinitis & bronchial hyper-reactivity; hyperchloraemic acidosis; severe renal impairment. Hypersensitivity to other β-blockers. |
Special Precautions |
Control cardiac failure prior to therapy. History of severe cardiac & resp disease. Spontaneous hypoglycaemia or labile insulin-dependent diabetes. May mask hyperthyroidism or worsen Prinzmetal's angina, severe peripheral, central circulatory disorders & hypotension. History of atopy or severe anaphylactic reaction to a variety of allergens. Close monitoring of IOP in patients w/ pseudoexfoliative glaucoma or pigmentary glaucoma. Narrow-angle glaucoma, compromised corneas. Remove contact lenses prior to application & reinsert 15 min after instillation. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy. Childn <18 yr. |
Adverse Drug Reactions |
Dysgeusia; blurred vision, eye pain, eye irritation, foreign body sensation in eyes.

Drug Interactions |
Oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors; ketoconazole, itraconazole, clotrimazole, ritonavir, troleandomycin. Potential additive effect w/ oral Ca channel blockers, guanethidine or β-blockers, antiarrhythmics, digitalis glycosides or parasympathomimetics. Potentiated systemic β-blockade w/ quinidine, cimetidine. May increase hypoglycaemic effect of antidiabetics.
