Indications |
Supply of energy, essential fatty acids, amino acids, electrolytes & fluids during parenteral nutrition for patients w/ mild to moderately severe catabolism when oral or enteral nutrition is impossible, insufficient or contraindicated. |

Dosage |
Max dose: Adult 40 mL/kg/day via central venous infusion. Max rate: 2 mL/kg/hr. Childn 6-14 yr 25 mL/kg/day, 3-5 yr 40 mL/kg/day. |

Contraindications |
Disturbances of amino acid & lipid metabolism, hyperkalemia, hypernatremia, unstable metabolism, hyperglycemia not responding to insulin of up to 6 u/hr, acidosis, intrahepatic cholestasis, severe hepatic or renal insufficiency, manifest cardiac insufficiency, aggravating hemorrhagic diatheses, acute phases of MI & stroke; acute event of thromboembolism, lipid embolism, known hypersensitivity to egg or soya bean protein. Infants <2 yr. |

Special Precautions |
Cardiac, hepatic or renal dysfunction; DM, pancreatitis, hypothyroidism (w/ hypertriglyceridemia), sepsis. Correct fluid, electrolyte or acid-base imbalance before the start of infusion. Monitor serum triglyceride conc. Pregnancy & lactation. |

Adverse Drug Reactions |
Slight increase in temp, flush, cold sensation, shivering, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, resp distress, headache, backache, bone pain, chest pain, lumbar pain, hypotension, HTN, hypersensitivity reactions, hot flushes or bluish skin discoloration.
