Indications |
Supply of energy, essential fatty acids, amino acids, electrolytes & fluids during parenteral nutrition for patients w/ mild to moderately severe catabolism when oral or enteral nutrition is impossible, insufficient or contraindicated.

Dosage |
Adult Max dose: 35 mL/kg body wt/day. Childn 6-14 yr 17.5 mL/kg body wt/day, 3-5 yr 25 mL/kg body wt/day. Max rate: 1.7 mL/kg body wt/hr. Administer via central venous infusion.

Contraindications |
Disturbances of amino acid & lipid metabolism, hyperkalemia, hypernatremia, unstable metabolism, hyperglycemia not responding to insulin of up to 6 u/hr, acidosis, intrahepatic cholestasis, severe hepatic or renal insufficiency, manifest cardiac insufficiency, aggravating hemorrhagic diatheses, acute phases of cardiac infarction & stroke; acute thromboembolic events, lipid embolism, known hypersensitivity to egg or soya bean protein, peanut oil. Childn <2 yr.

Special Precautions |
Increased serum osmolarity, cardiac, hepatic or renal dysfunction; DM, pancreatitis, hypothyroidism (w/ hypertriglyceridemia), sepsis. Control fluid, electrolyte or acid-base balance. Monitor serum triglyceride conc & blood glucose level. Pregnancy & lactation.

Adverse Drug Reactions |
Slight increase in temp, flush, cold sensation, shivering, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, resp distress, headache, backache, bone pain, pain in the chest & lumbar region, hypotension, HTN, hypersensitivity reactions, hot flushes or bluish skin discoloration; overloading syndrome.
