|
Indications |
Patients w/ a single clinical event suggestive of multiple sclerosis (clinically isolated syndrome), to delay progression to definite multiple sclerosis. In relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis, for the reduction of frequency & degree of severity of clinical relapses in ambulatory patients, characterized by at least 2 attacks of neurological dysfunction over the preceding 2-yr period, followed by complete or incomplete recovery. In secondary progressive multiple sclerosis, for the reduction of frequency & severity of clinical relapses & for slowing the progression of disease. |

Dosage |
1 mL (0.25 mg or 8 MIU) SC every other day. Rotate inj site w/ each dose. |

Contraindications |
History of hypersensitivity to natural or recombinant interferon-β or human albumin. Pregnancy. |

Special Precautions |
Preexisting immune system disturbance; increased triglycerides, pancreatitis; depression, suicidal ideation, thyroid dysfunction; anemia, history of seizures; cardiac disorders; multiple lesions. Childn & adolescents <18 yr. Lactation. |

Adverse Drug Reactions |
Inj site reactions & necrosis, flu-like symptoms, asthenia. Blood disorders, headache, insomnia, incoordination, increased BP, dyspnea, abdominal pain, hepatobiliary disorders, rash, skin disorders, hypertonia, myalgia, diuresis, metorrhagia, impotence, asthma, pain, fever, chills, peripheral edema, chest pain, malaise.

Pregnancy Category (US FDA) |
Category C: Either studies in animals have revealed adverse effects on the foetus (teratogenic or embryocidal or other) and there are no controlled studies in women or studies in women and animals are not available. Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus. |
