Indications |
Hypovolemia & shock.

Dosage |
Initially 10-20 mL. Max infusion rate: 20 mL/kg /hr in acute shock, 500 mL rapid infusion in life-threatening situations. Max daily dose of 6% soln: 50 mL/kg; 10% soln: 30 mL/kg.

Overdosage |

Contraindications |
Hyperhydration states including pulmonary edema, renal failure w/ oliguria or anuria, intracranial bleeding, severe hyperkalemia, severe hypernatremia or severe hyperchloremia, severe hepatic impairment, CHF.

Special Precautions |
Avoid vol overload esp in cardiac insufficiency; renal impairment, elderly w/ hypervolemia. Monitor serum electrolytes, fluid balance & kidney function. Severe dehydration should be treated w/ IV electrolyte soln first. Hepatic insufficiency, blood coagulation disorders, allergic reactions. Pregnancy & lactation.

Adverse Drug Reactions |
Hemodilution resulting to reduced hematocrit & decreased plasma protein conc; elevated serum α-amylase. Clotting disorders. Rarely, anaphylactic reactions (discontinue use).
