Indications |
Treatment of Fe overload in patients w/ thalassemia major when deferoxamine therapy is contraindicated or inadequate. |
Dosage |
Tab 25 mg/kg body wt tid. Oral soln 75 mg/kg/day. |
Administration |
May be taken with or without food (Take after meals.). |
Contraindications |
History of repeated neutropenia, agranulocytosis. Pregnancy & lactation. |
Special Precautions |
Monitor any sign of infection eg fever, sore throat or flu-like symptoms. Monitor serum ALT level & body Fe load regularly. HIV +ve or other immunocompromised patients. Neurological disorder in childn in long-term overdose. |
Adverse Drug Reactions |
Neutropenia or agranulocytosis. Joint pain & swelling. Increased hepatic enzymes, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea & increased appetite.
