Dosage |
Childn w/ growth hormone deficiency 0.025-0.035 mg/kg/day (0.07-0.1 IU/kg/day). Turner syndrome 0.045-0.05 mg/kg/day (0.14-0.15 IU/kg/day). Childn born small for gestational age 0.035-0.067 mg/kg/day (0.1-0.2 IU/kg/day) SC daily. |
Contraindications |
Evidence of neoplastic activity. Uncontrolled growth of benign intracranial tumors, acute critical illness due to complications following open heart or abdominal surgery, multiple accidental trauma or acute resp failure. |
Special Precautions |
Risk of developing diabetes in patients w/ obesity, family history of diabetes, treatment w/ steroids or prior impaired glucose tolerance. Mild hyperthyroidism in patients receiving replacement therapy w/ thyroxin. Test thyroid function regularly. eva luate childn who develop a limp during therapy. |
Adverse Drug Reactions |
Transient local skin reactions at inj site eg peripheral oedema, stiffness in the extremities, arthralgia, myalgia, paraesthesia.

Pregnancy Category (US FDA) |
Category B: Either animal-reproduction studies have not demonstrated a foetal risk but there are no controlled studies in pregnant women or animal-reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect (other than a decrease in fertility) that was not confirmed in controlled studies in women in the 1st trimester (and there is no evidence of a risk in later trimesters). |
