Indications |
Reduction in signs & symptoms & inhibiting the progression of structural damage in patient w/ moderate-severe active RA. Reduction in signs & symptoms of moderate-severe active polyarticular-course juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). Reduction in signs & symptoms of active psoriatic arthritis & active ankylosing spondylitis. Treatment of plaque psoriasis in childn & adult.

Dosage |
SC RA, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis Adult 50 mg/wk. Active polyarticular-course JIA Childn 4-17 yr 0.8 mg/kg/wk (up to max 50 mg/wk). Plaque psoriasis Adult 50 mg once wkly or 25 mg twice wkly 72-96 hr apart; or 50 mg twice wkly up to 12 wk followed by 50 mg once wkly or 25 mg twice wkly. Childn 8-17 yr 0.8 mg/kg once wkly (up to max 50 mg/wk) up to 24 wk.

Contraindications |
Patient w/ sepsis or risk of sepsis. Serious active infection including chronic or localized infection.

Special Precautions |
Patient w/ history of recurring infection or w/ underlying conditions (in addition to RA) which may predispose to infection. History of blood dyscrasias; eva luate urgently if patient develops signs & symptoms suggestive of blood dyscrasias or infection. Live vaccines should not be given concurrently. eva luate risk/benefit before prescribing to patient w/ preexisting or recent onset of CNS demyelinating disease. Possible tendency toward worsening of CHF w/ or w/o identifiable precipitating factors. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <4 yr.

Pregnancy Category (US FDA) |
Category B: Either animal-reproduction studies have not demonstrated a foetal risk but there are no controlled studies in pregnant women or animal-reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect (other than a decrease in fertility) that was not confirmed in controlled studies in women in the 1st trimester (and there is no evidence of a risk in later trimesters). |
