Indications |
Reduces cumulative renal toxicity associated w/ repeated administration of cisplatin in patients w/ advanced ovarian cancer or non-small-cell lung cancer. Prevents acute & late xerostomia from radiotherapy in head & neck cancer.

Dosage |
Reduction of renal toxicity associated w/ cisplatin Initially 740-910 mg/m2 once daily as a 15 min IV infusion starting w/in 30 min prior to chemotherapy w/ agents. Radioprotection 200 mg/m2 once daily as a 3 min IV infusion starting 15-30 min prior to radiotherapy. Reconstitute w/ 9.7 mL sterile 0.9% NaCl soln prior to administration.

Contraindications |
Hypotensive or dehydrated patients. Renal or hepatic impairment. Childn & patients >70 yr. Pregnancy & lactation.

Special Precautions |
Hydrate patient adequately prior to infusion, keep in supine position & monitor BP. Monitor Ca serum levels in patients at risk of hypocalcaemia eg those w/ nephrotic syndrome.

Adverse Drug Reactions |
Hypotension, nausea, vomiting, flushing/feeling of warmth, chills/feeling of coldness, dizziness, somnolence, hiccups & sneezing.

May potentiate hypotension w/ antihypertensives.

Pregnancy Category (US FDA) |
Category C: Either studies in animals have revealed adverse effects on the foetus (teratogenic or embryocidal or other) and there are no controlled studies in women or studies in women and animals are not available.
