Drug Description
Bricanyl Turbohaler: metered dose powder inhaler. Bricanyl Tablets: white scored tablets marked A/BT and 5. Bricanyl SA: white sustained- release tablets marked A/BD. Bricanyl Syrup: raspberry flavoured, sugar-free aqueous flavoured, sugar-free aqueous syrup. Bricanyl Inhaler: metered dose aerosol. Bricanyl Spacer Inhaler: metered dose aerosol with collapsible delivery system. Bricanyl Respirator Solution: solution. Bricanyl Respules: solution in single dose unit. Bricanyl Injection: ampoules.

Bricanyl Turbohaler: Terbutaline sulphate 0.5 mg per dose. Bricanyl Tablets: Terbutaline sulphate 5 mg . Bricanyl SA: Terbutaline sulphate 7.5 mg . Bricanyl Syrup: Terbutaline sulphate 1.5 mg per 5 mL. Bricanyl Inhaler: Terbutaline sulphate 0.25 mg per dose. Bricanyl Spacer Inhaler: Terbutaline sulphate 0.25 mg per dose. Bricanyl Respirator Solution: Terbutaline sulphate 10 mg per mL. Bricanyl Respules: Terbutaline sulphate 5 mg /2 mL. Bricanyl Injection: Terbutaline sulphate 0.5 mg /mL.
Indications
Bronchospasm in asthma and other bronchopulmonary disorders.
Adult Dosage
Bricanyl Turbohaler: 1 inhalation as required; maximum 4 in 24 hours. Bricanyl Tablets and Bricanyl Syrup: Initially, / tablet or 10 mL syrup three times in 24 hours, increasing to 1 tablet or 15 mL three times in 24 hours if necessary; minimum dose interval 7 hours. Bricanyl SA: 1 tablet twice daily. Bricanyl Inhaler and Bricanyl Spacer Inhaler: 1 - 2 puffs as required; maximum 8 puffs in 24 hours. Bricanyl Respirator Solution: 5 - 10 mg diluted and nebulised two to four times daily. Bricanyl Respules: 5 - 10 mg two to four times daily in nebuliser. Bricanyl Injection: 0 .25 - 0 .5 mg by subcutaneous, intramuscular or slow intravenous injection up to four times daily.
Child Dosage
Bricanyl Turbohaler: 1 inhalation as required; maximum 4 in 24 hours. Bricanyl Tablets and Bricanyl Syrup: 0.25 mL/kg of syrup three times in 24 hours; 7 - 15 years, initially / tablet twice in 24 hours, increasing to / tablet three times in 24 hours if necessary; minimum dose interval 7 hours. Bricanyl SA: Not recommended. Bricanyl Inhaler and Bricanyl Spacer Inhaler: 1 - 2 puffs as required; maximum 8 puffs in 24 hours. Bricanyl Respirator Solution: 2 - 5 mg diluted and nebulised two to four times daily; see data sheet. Bricanyl Respules: Under 25 kg, not recommended; over 25 kg, 5 mg two to four times daily in a nebuliser. Bricanyl Injection: Under 2 years, not recommended; 2 - 15 years, 10 micrograms/kg by subcutaneous, intramuscular or slow intravenous injection; total maximum 300 micrograms.
Special Precautions
Thyrotoxicosis, myocardial insufficiency, diabetes. Pregnancy. Monitor serum potassium levels in severe asthma.
Interactions
Sympathomimetics, b-blockers, hypokalaemic agents.
Adverse Reactions
Tremor, headache, tonic cramps, palpitations, tension, hypokalaemia. Tablets and syrup: also urticaria, exanthema, sleep and behavioural disturbances in children.
