Indications |
Type 2 diabetes (NIDDM).

Dosage |
Initial dose: 0.5 mg. If patients transferred from another oral antidiabetic, starting dose is 1 mg. Dosing titration by doubling the dose. Max single dose: 4 mg. Max daily dose: 16 mg.

Overdosage |

Administration |
Should be taken with food (Take w/in 30 min of meals.). |
Contraindications |
Pregnancy, lactation, Type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, concomitant use of gemfibrozil, childn <12 yr, severe hepatic disorders.

Special Precautions |
<18 yr old or >75 yr old. Major surgery, severe illness or infection, kidney or liver problems.

Adverse Drug Reactions |
GI disturbances, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, constipation. Rarely, hypoglycaemia.

Drug Interactions |
Enhanced hypoglycaemic effect w/ gemfibrozil, clarithromycin, itraconazole, ketoconazole, MAOIs, nonselective β-blockers, ACE inhibitors, salicylates, octreotide, alcohol, anabolic steroids. Reduced hypoglycaemic effect w/ glucocorticoids, OCs, thiazides, danazol, thyroid hormones, sympathomimetics.
