Effects of this medicine

This medicine works on central nervous system in order to control epilepsy seizures.
It is usually used to treat partial/generalized/mixed seizures.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • In general, for adults, take 0.5 to 1g (100 to 200mg of the active ingredient) in 1 to 3 divided doses on the first day. Then, increase the dose every 1 to 2 weeks to 1 to 2g (200 to 400mg) in 1 to 3 divided doses a day.
    For children, take 0.01 to 0.02g/kg (2 to 4mg/kg of the active ingredient) in 1 to 3 divided doses on the first day. Then, increase the dose every 1 to 2 weeks to 0.02 to 0.04g/kg (4 to 8mg/kg) in 1 to 3 divided doses a day.
    The maximum dose is 3g (600mg of the active ingredient) a day for adults, 0.06g/kg (12mg/kg of the active ingredient) a day for children. Strictly follow the instructions of your doctor and pharmacist.
  • If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • This medicine may cause sleepiness, diminished attention, loss of concentration, decreased reflex motor capacity, etc. Therefore do not drive a car or operate dangerous machinery while taking it.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include sleepiness, loss of appetite, enervation/aspontaneity, motor incoordination (clumsy of mouth and incoordination of movements, light-headed feeling) , nausea/vomiting, lassitude/feeling of weariness, decreased mental activity (enervation, indifference, loss of concentration), rash, itch, and decreased sweating. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • fever, erythema/blister spreading across a wide area, skin exfoliation [toxic epidermal necrolysis, mucocutaneous ocular syndrome, dermatitis exfoliativa]
  • anemic condition, sore throat, generalized fatigability, bleeding tendency [aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis, pure red cell aplasia, thrombocytopenia]
  • fever, dry cough, breathing difficulty [interstitial pneumonia]
  • pain/stiffness/numbness in the muscles of the limbs [rhabdomyolysis]
  • lumbar backache, abdominal pain, bloody urine [nephrolithiasis, urolithiasis]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from heat, moisture and direct sunlight.
  •  Discard the remainder. Do not store them. Ask the pharmacist or the medical institution staff how to discard.
