Effects of this medicine

This medicine binds to angiotensin II receptor produced in the body, and inhibits the hypertensive activity of angiotensin II by blocking its vasoconstriction action. And then it lowers blood pressure in hypertensive patient.
It is usually used to treat hypertension.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have diabetes mellitus, renal disorder, hyperpotassemia.
    If you are receiving hemodialysis.
    If you are dietary salt restriction.
    If you are scheduled in surgery.
  • If you are pregnant, possibly pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is <<        to be written by a healthcare professional>>
  • For adults: In general, take 40 to 80 mg of the active ingredient at a time, once a day. The dose may be adjusted according to the age or symptoms. However, daily dose may be increased to 160 mg.
    For children aged 6 years and older: In general, for children weighing less than 35 kg, take 20 mg of the active ingredient at a time, once a day. For children weighing 35 kg and more, take 40 mg at a time, once a day. The dose may be adjusted according to the age, body weight or symptoms. However, for children weighing less than 35 kg, the maximum daily dose is restricted to 40 mg.
    This medicine contains 20 mg of the ingredient in a tablet. Strictly follow the instructions in any case.
  • If you miss a dose, take a dose as soon as you remember. However, if there are less than about 8 hours before the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness may occur due to decreased blood pressure. Take care in working at heights, driving a car or operating dangerous machinery.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include dizziness, headache, palpitation, abdominal pain, cough, malaise, rash, hypotension, itch, hives, erythema and photosensitivity. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • swelling of lips/tongue, respiratory distress [angioedema]
  • loss of appetite, general malaise, yellowness in the skin and/or the white of the eye [hepatitis]
  • decrease of urine output, swelling of limbs, loss of appetite [renal failure]
  • muscle weakness, numbness of limbs/lips, paralysis in limbs [hyperpotassemia]
  • loss of consciousness, vomiting, cold feeling [shock, syncope, loss of consciousness]

  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
  •  Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
