Effects of this medicine

In addition to beta-blocking activity, this medicine exhibits vasodepressor and antihypertensive effects by alpha1-blocking activity. It improves heart function which cannot pump blood through the body well.
It is usually used to treat essential/renal parenchymal hypertension, angina and chronic heart failure due to ischemich heart disease or dilated cardiomyopathy.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you ever experienced any allergic reaction (itch, rash etc.) to any medicine.
    If you are a patient with bronchial asthma, bronchospasm, diabetic ketoacidosis, metabolic acidosis, arrhythmia, cardiogenic shock, decompensated heart failure, right-sided heart failure secondary to pulmonary hypertension, pheochromocytoma, long fasting state, malnutrition, disorders in liver/kidney, peripheral circulatory disorder, or hypotension.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is <<        to be written by a healthcare professional>>

  • General dosage regimen: Essential hypertension (mild to moderate), and renal parenchymal hypertension, For adults, take 10-20mg of the active ingredient at a time, once a day. The dose may be adjusted according to your age and symptoms.
    Angina, For adults, take 20mg of the active ingredient at a time, once a day. The dose may be adjusted according to your age and symptoms.
    Chronic heart failure due to ischemic heart disease or dilated cardiomyopathy, For adults, Start with 1.25mg of the active ingredient at a time, twice a day after meals. If tolerated, this dose will be increased step by step, each time after more than a week of assessment. The dose will be reduced if intolerable. Dose adjustment is made in incremental steps without exception. Single dose is usually 1.25mg, 2.5mg, 5mg or 10mg. In any case, the medicine is taken twice a day after meals. The standard maintenance dose is 2.5-10mg at a time, twice a day after meals. According to your age and symptoms, you may be ordered to start with even smaller doses. Depending on how you will respond to the medicine, doses will be suitably adjusted. Each tablet contains 10 mg of the active ingredient. Strictly follow the instructions of your doctor/pharmacist.
  • Take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT take double doses to make up for the missed dose.
  • If you took too much of the medicine (more than ordered), check with your doctor/pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking the medicine without the instructions of your doctor..

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • You may feel dizzy or lightheaded, especially when starting/increasing dose.
    Do not drive a car or operate dangerous machinery while you take the medicine.

Possible adverse effects of this medicine

Common side effects are reported as below. If any of them occurs, check with your doctor/pharmacist: dizziness, general fatigue, drowsiness, headache, deterioration of heart failure, palpitation, bradycardia, drop in blood pressure, deterioration of diabetes, rash, asthma-like symptoms, nausea, etc.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse effects indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • shortness of breath, dizziness, loss of consciousness[severe bradycardia, complete atrioventricular block, heart failure, cardiac arrest]
  • pale face, cold sweat, lightheadedness[shock]
  • general fatigue, loss of appetite, yellowing of the skin/white of eyes[liver dysfunction, jaundice]
  • general fatigue, decreased urine output, swollen limbs/face[acute renal failure]
  • breathing difficulty, lightheadedness, swelling around eyes/lips[anaphylactoid symptoms]
