How does it work?

Ultra chloraspetic anaesthetic throat spray contains the active ingredient benzocaine,which belongs to a group of medicines known as local anaesthetics. It works bytemporarily blocking the pathway of pain signals along nerves.

Pain iscaused by the stimulation of pain receptors at the ends of nerves. Thestimulation causes sodium to enter the nerve ending, which causes an electricalsignal to build up in the nerve. When this electrical signal is big enough, itpasses along the nerve to the brain, where the signal is interpreted as pain.

Benzocaineacts by stopping the sodium entering the nerve ending at the site of the pain.This prevents an electrical signal building up and passing along nerve fibresto the brain. In this way benzocaine relieves pain in the area to which it is applied.

Benzocaine is used to relieve the pain anddiscomfort of sore throats. It is administered by spraying directly onto thearea that requires numbing.

What is it used for?

• Temporary relief of pain due to sore throats.

Warning!

• Do not exceed the recommended dose of this medicine, which will be stated in the product packaging or information leaflet supplied with the medicine. Do not continue using the spray for more than seven days.
• Avoid contact of this medicine with the eyes.
• If the sore throat is severe, persistent or accompanied by fever, nausea or headache, a doctor should be consulted before using this medicine.
• If you have difficulty breathing or severe difficulty swallowing, do not use this medicine and consult a doctor.
• Do not inhale the spray.

Not to be used in

• Children under six years of age.
• Epiglottitis, which is Inflammation of the structure at the back of the tongue (epiglottis) due to bacterial infection, which can obstruct breathing.

This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you havepreviously experienced such an allergy.

If you feel you have experienced an allergic reaction, stopusing this medicine and inform your doctor or pharmacistimmediately.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Certain medicines should not be used during pregnancy orbreastfeeding. However, other medicines may be safely used in pregnancy orbreastfeeding providing the benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to theunborn baby. Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning apregnancy, before using any medicine.

Side effects

This medicine may reduce the effect ofsulphonamide-type antibiotics, such as sulfamethoxazole and sulfadiazine. If you are taking this type of antibiotic check with yourdoctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
