Indications |
Prevention & treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) associated w/ chronic renal insufficiency (chronic kidney disease stage 3 & 4) & chronic renal failure (stage 5); patients on haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.

Dosage |
Soft gelatin cap Chronic kidney disease stage 3 & 4 Once a day, either daily or 3 times/wk. Initial dose is based on baseline intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) levels: ≤500 pg/mL iPTH 1 mcg daily or 2 mcg 3 times/wk. >500 pg/mL iPTH 2 mcg daily or 4 mcg 3 times/wk. Thrice-wkly dose to be given not more often than every other day. Stage 5: Dose is based on a baseline iPTH level (pg/mL)/60 [(pmol/L)/7] up to an initial max dose of 32 mcg. IV Dose is based on a baseline iPTH level (pg/mL)/80.

Pregnancy Category (US FDA) |
Category C: Either studies in animals have revealed adverse effects on the foetus (teratogenic or embryocidal or other) and there are no controlled studies in women or studies in women and animals are not available.
