Indications

Treatment of first clinical symptom for the development of multiple sclerosis (MS), relapsing-remitting & secondary progressive MS.

Dosage

Adult ≥18 yr 250 mcg SC every other day. Dose titration: Initially 62.5 mcg (0.25 mL) SC every other day, then increased slowly to 250 mcg (1 mL).

Overdosage

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to natural/recombinant interferon β. Pregnancy. Childn <18 yr.

Special Precautions

Preexisting immune system disturbance. Discontinue in patients exhibiting depressive disorders & suicidal ideation. History of seizures, preexisting cardiac disorders, myelosuppression, anaemia, thrombocytopenia, multiple lesions. Perform CBC, differential WBC, platelet count & obtain liver function tests prior to & regularly during treatment. Thyroid dysfunction. Monitor signs of hepatic injury. Rotate inj site w/ each dose. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Lactation.

Adverse Drug Reactions

Flu-like symptoms; inj-site reactions; chills, fever; skin breakdown & tissue destruction (necrosis) at inj site.

Pregnancy Category (US FDA)
