Per 1 L Tetraspan 6%/10% soln Hydroxyethyl starch (Molar substitution: 0.42; Ave molecular wt: 130,000 Dalton) 60 g or 100 g. Electrolyte conc: Na 140 mmol/L, K 4 mmol/L, Ca 2.5 mmol/L, Mg 1 mmol/L, Cl 118 mmol/L, acetate 24 mmol/L, malate 5 mmol/L |
Indications |
Treatment of imminent or manifest hypovolaemia & shock. |
Dosage |
Initially 10-20 mL slow infusion. Max daily dose: 50 mL Tetraspan 6%/kg body wt or 30 mL Tetraspan 10%/kg body wt. Acute shock 20 mL/kg body wt/hr. Life-threatening situation 500 mL rapid manual pressure infusion. |
Contraindications |
Hyperhydration states including pulmonary oedema, renal failure w/ oliguria or anuria, intracranial haemorrhage, hyperkalaemia, severe hypernatraemia or hyperchloraemia, severe hepatic impairment, CHF. |
Special Precautions |
Monitor serum electrolyte, fluid balance & renal function. Heart failure, hepatic or renal failure, blood coagulation disorder. Childn. Pregnancy & lactation. |
Adverse Drug Reactions |
Hemodilution, decreased hematocrit & plasma protein conc, coagulation factor dilution, prolonged bleeding time & aPTT, reduced FVIII/vWF complex levels, raised serum α-amylase level, anaphylactic reaction.
