Dosage |
Vag affections Adult 1 tab tds for 1 wk for both the patient & her partner. If taking oral therapy only: ≥4 tab daily. Childn 10 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses for 10 days. UTI Adult 3-6 tab daily for 1-2 wk. Childn 10-20 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses. Intestinal amoebiasis Adult 2 tab tds for 10 days. Childn 10 mg/kg tds for 10 days. Intestinal giardiasis Adult 2 tab bd-tds for 7 days. Childn 15 mg/kg bd for 7 days. |
Administration |
Should be taken with food (Take after meals.). |
Contraindications |
Hypersensitivity to nitrofurantoin or its derivatives. |
Special Precautions |
Renal impairment, neuropathies, G6PD deficiency. |
Adverse Drug Reactions |
GI disturbances, peripheral neuropathy, thrombocytopenic purpura. Rarely, hepatotoxicity, blood dyscrasias, pulmonary reactions, allergic reactions. Haemolytic anemia in G6PD-deficient patients. May provoke disulfiram-like reaction w/ alcohol.
