Dosage |
IM/IV Initially 40 mg followed by 20-40 mg 6-12 hr later as required. Max: 80 mg/day.

Overdosage |
View Dynastat overdosage for action to be taken in the event of an overdose. |
Contraindications |
History of serious allergic drug reaction or hypersensitivity to sulphonamides. Patients who have experienced bronchospasm, acute rhinitis, nasal polyps, angioneurotic oedema, urticaria or other allergic-type reactions after taking acetylsalicylic acid or NSAIDs including COX-2 inhibitors. Active peptic ulceration or GI bleeding. Severe hepatic dysfunction, inflammatory bowel disease, CHF (NYHA II-IV); treatment of post-op pain following CABG surgery, ischemic heart, peripheral arterial &/or cerebrovascular disease. Pregnancy (3rd trimester) & lactation.

Special Precautions |
Patient w/ CV event risk factors eg HTN, hyperlipidemia, DM & smoking. Upper GI complications (perforation, ulcer or bleeding) or patients taking other NSAID or acetylsalicylic acid concomitantly w/ a history of GI disease. Monitor any serious skin reactions (discontinue). Hepatic or renal impairment, compromised cardiac function, preexisting oedema or conditions predisposing to fluid retention. HTN. Dehydration. May mask fever & other signs of inflammation. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Elderly.

Adverse Drug Reactions |
Nausea; pharyngitis, alveolar osteitis, post-op anaemia, hypokalaemia, agitation, insomnia, hypoaesthesia, dizziness, MI, bradycardia, HTN, hypotension, resp insufficiency, GI disorders, pruritus, hyperhidrosis, back pain, oliguria, peripheral oedema, increased blood creatinine.
