Indications |
Relief of bronchospasm in patients w/ asthma or COPD & for acute prophylaxis against exercise-induced asthma in other situations known to induce bronchospasm. Turbuhaler Short-term management of bronchospasm & maintenance therapy.

Dosage |
SR durule One 5 mg or one 7.5 mg durule bd. Nebulizing soln Adult & childn >12 yr 1-2 mL as required up to every 6 hr. Severe cases: Up to 4 mL. Childn 0.08 mL/kg up to every 4 hr. Turbuhaler Adult & childn >12 yr 1 inhalation up to every 4-6 hr. Severe cases: 3 inhalations as single dose. Max dose: 12 inhalations/day. Childn 1 inhalation up to every 4-6 hr. Severe cases: 2 inhalations as single dose. Max dose: 8 inhalations/day. Inj 0.5 mL up to every 6 hr.

Special Precautions |
Thyrotoxicosis, HTN, CAD, arrhythmias, tachyarrhythmia, diabetes. Hypersensitivity to sympathomimetic amines. Hypokalaemia, cardionecrosis (long-term treatment).

Tremor, nervousness, nausea, increases in heart rate palpitations.

β-blockers may inhibit bronchodilating effect. Xanthine derivatives, steroids & diuretics.

Pregnancy Category (US FDA) |
Category B: Either animal-reproduction studies have not demonstrated a foetal risk but there are no controlled studies in pregnant women or animal-reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect (other than a decrease in fertility) that was not confirmed in controlled studies in women in the 1st trimester (and there is no evidence of a risk in later trimesters). |
