Indications |
Co-administered w/ acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) for prevention of atherothrombotic events in patients w/ acute coronary syndrome (eg unstable angina, non-ST segment elevation MI, ST segment elevation MI) undergoing primary or delayed percutaneous coronary intervention.

Dosage |
Adult Loading dose: 60 mg. Maintenance: 10 mg once daily w/ aspirin 75-325 mg daily. Duration: 12 mth. Patient <60 kg Loading dose: 60 mg. Maintenance: 5 mg once daily.

Overdosage |

Administration |
May be taken with or without food (Swallow whole, do not break/crush. For faster action, loading dose may be taken w/o food. ). |

Contraindications |
Active pathological bleeding. History of stroke or transient ischaemic attack. Severe hepatic impairment.

Special Precautions |
Patients w/ propensity to bleed eg due to recent trauma, recent surgery, recent or recurrent GI bleeding or active PUD. Elderly ≥75 yr. Discontinue treatment at least 7 days prior to surgery. Patients w/ Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption.

Adverse Drug Reactions |
Bleeding, anaemia, haematoma, epistaxis, GI hemorrhage, rash, ecchymosis, haematuria, vessel puncture site haematoma, puncture site haemorrhage, contusion.

Oral anticoagulants eg warfarin & other coumarin derivatives, clopidogrel, NSAIDs & fibrinolytics.

Pregnancy Category (US FDA) |
Category B: Either animal-reproduction studies have not demonstrated a foetal risk but there are no controlled studies in pregnant women or animal-reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect (other than a decrease in fertility) that was not confirmed in controlled studies in women in the 1st trimester (and there is no evidence of a risk in later trimesters). |
