Chronic Fe overload in transfusional haemosiderosis esp in thalassaemia major. Idiopathic haemochromatosis, Fe poisoning. |
Dosage |
25 mg/kg body wt tds. |
Administration |
May be taken with or without food |
Contraindications |
Neutropenia, agranulocytosis. Pregnancy & lactation. |
Special Precautions |
Monitor neutrophil counts wkly. Interrupt therapy if patient develops an infection. |
Adverse Drug Reactions |
Reddish discolouration of the urine, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting. Rarely, neutropenia, agranulocytosis.
