Dactinomycin |
|
Indications |
Wilms' tumor, rhabdomyosarcoma, carcinoma of testis & uterus, palliative treatment of other types of cancer. |

Dosage |
Adult 500 mcg daily for ≤5 days. Childn 15 mcg/kg IV for 5 days or total dosage of 2,500 mcg/m2 IV for 7 days. Max for adult & childn: 15 mcg/kg or 400-600 mcg/m2 IV for 5 days. |

Contraindications |
Chicken pox or herpes zoster. |

Special Precautions |
Toxic & extremely corrosive to soft tissue. GI toxicity, marrow suppression, hepatomegaly, elevated SGOT levels & increased incidences of 2nd primary tumor. Abnormalities in renal, hepatic & bone marrow function. Anaphylactoid reactions. Pregnancy & lactation. Dactinomycin should only be given to infant ≥6-12 mth. If stomatitis, diarrhoea or severe haemopoietic depression occurs, discontinue until the patient has recovered. |

Adverse Drug Reactions |
Malaise, fatigue, fever, myalgia, GI, hematologic & dermatologic effects.
