Indications for HIPREX:

Prophylaxis and suppression of recurrent UTIs.

Adult:

1 g twice daily.

Children:

<6 years: not recommended. ≥6 years: 0.5–1 g twice daily.

Pharmacological Class:

Antiseptic.

Contraindications:

Renal or hepatic insufficiency. Severe dehydration. As sole therapy in infections with systemic involvement.

Warnings/Precautions:

Maintain acid urine. Monitor therapy and liver function with repeated urine cultures. Aspirin allergy. Pregnancy.

Interactions:

Sulfonamides precipitate with formaldehyde in urine; avoid concomitant use.

Adverse Reactions:

Nausea, dysuria, rash, bladder irritation, albuminuria, hematuria, elevated transaminases.
